Sadahalli Underpass work starts, traffic diversions hit Airport Road

Construction has started on one side of the long-pending underpass, with commuters heading towards KIA and Devanahalli likely to face more congestion. Work on the long-delayed Sadahalli underpass on the Bengaluru airport road has finally moved ahead, with construction activity beginning on one side of the structure. Barricades have been installed at the site and traffic diversions have been introduced on the toll side, changing the movement of vehicles along the busy corridor. The ongoing work is expected to affect commuters travelling towards Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and Devanahalli, particularly as construction activity expands to other portions of the underpass. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started excavation work for the retaining wall on one of the four sides of the underpass. Machinery has already been brought to the location, and work on the opposite side is expected to begin next. With construction now taking place on the road, commuters could face slower movement and additional traffic pressure. The timing of the construction is also raising concerns because several developments are taking place around the same corridor. The nearby Prestige 13 Degrees North mall is nearing completion. Once operational, the commercial development is expected to add more vehicle movement to the area. At the same time, the Bengaluru airport metro project is still under construction and is expected to take another two years to complete. The combination of ongoing infrastructure work and upcoming commercial activity could put further pressure on the airport road.
