Drought crisis deepening in Karnataka, now there is danger of shortage of drinking water and electricity; Demand crossed 19 thousand MW

The crisis of drought in Karnataka now seems to be extending from the fields to the drinking water and electricity systems. Drought has been declared in 100 taluks and a huge decline in ground water level has been recorded. Meanwhile, as the demand for electricity has crossed 19,000 MW, the government is preparing to buy additional power, increase thermal power production and take power from the national grid. Drought and farmers' problems will be discussed in the special session of the Assembly from 21st to 23rd September.
