Governor's chair does not become vacant as soon as his 5-year term ends, High Court gives major clarification on Article 156

Madhya Pradesh High Court has given a major constitutional clarification regarding the five-year tenure of the Governor. The court said that the post of Governor does not automatically become vacant on completion of five years. Under Article 156(3) of the Constitution, the current Governor can continue in office until his successor takes office. On this basis, the court rejected the petition demanding immediate appointment of a new governor.
